Data-driven cybersecurity research for countering emerging cyber threat
About Cybersecurity Laboratory
Cybersecurity Laboratory (CSL) is dedicated to advancing state-of-the-art cybersecurity technologies and enhancing society’s capacity to respond to cyber threats. Under the sixth mid-to-long-term plan, which commenced in April 2026, the analysis and infrastructure functions previously within CSL were reorganized into independent units: Cyber Threat Analysis Office and Cyber Infrastructure Office. As a result, CSL now places a stronger emphasis on research and development, aiming to produce internationally competitive outcomes in the academic domain.
While CSL addresses a broad range of research topics, its activities under the sixth mid-to-long-term plan are structured around two main pillars. The first is “Cyber Threat Intelligence Infrastructure Technology.” In this area, we further develop and expand the cyberattack observation technologies that CSL has cultivated over many years, while establishing a foundation for the large-scale, continuous collection and accumulation of primary data. In addition, through the cross-domain integration and analysis of diverse cyber threat data, we aim to establish core technologies for generating cyber threat intelligence, enabling continuous understanding of and response to evolving threats.
The second pillar is “Human-Centered Cybersecurity Technology.” This area focuses on addressing security and privacy challenges that arise from human interaction with emerging ICT systems by developing technologies grounded in an understanding of human behavioral and cognitive characteristics. Through interdisciplinary collaboration with fields such as psychology, cognitive science, and brain information and communication technologies, we aim to establish next-generation security based on human-centered design.
