He received his Ph.D. in Engineering in 2014 from Yokohama National University. Since joining the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in 2011, he has been consistently engaged in research and development in the field of cybersecurity. Since April 2024, he has served as Director of the Cybersecurity Laboratory at the Cybersecurity Research Institute, where he leads R&D efforts in cybersecurity technologies.
His research expertise includes cyberattack monitoring and analysis, malware analysis, web-based attack countermeasures, IoT security, and usable security. He has been involved in various R&D projects, including NICTER, WarpDrive, and NOTICE.
In addition to his research activities, he has contributed to various academic and professional initiatives. He has served as a committee member (and Executive Chair in 2017) of the Anti-Malware and Anti-Cyberattack Engineering Workshop (MWS) since 2013; a committee member of the IEICE technical committee on Information and Communication System Security (ICSS) from 2016 to 2023; a trainer for SecHack365 from 2017 to 2024; program chair of the 7th IEEE Conference on Dependable and Secure Computing (DSC); and a visiting associate professor at Tokyo Denki University from 2015 to 2022. He has also contributed to the labeling scheme based on Japan Cyber-Security Technical Assessment Requirements (JC-STAR), serving as chair of the working group on communication device criteria and as a member of the working groups on network camera criteria and smart home criteria.
His honors include the IPSJ 2011 Yamashita SIG Research Award, the NDSS 2019 Distinguished Paper Award, the 2024 Telecommunications Advancement Foundation Award, and the 70th Maejima Hisoka Award.
